Mechanical Engineering Internship at Key Tech

Unfortunately due to the sensitive nature of client relationships and IP, I am unable to share specific solutions. However, this page indicates certain aspects of my work I was cleared to share. Images are generic stock images to preserve confidentiality.

SLA prototype design, ordering, and validation

I designed and evaluated SLA 3D printed prototypes for metering input fluid to microliter precision for automated in vitro diagnostic system with a custom-designed test bench and four-digit scale. Minimum feature size was on the order of 5 thousandths of an inch.

Novel application of spectrophotometry

I developed a script, test protocol, and analysis tools for optical density measurements evaluating loss of microscopic beads using a spectrophotometer. It was coupled with a precision automated syringe to de-risk design concepts.

Client relationships

I was personally responsible for developing and presenting slides on tight timelines to present directly to senior client leadership, both technical and non-technical. Critical constraints were changed, and rapid determinations of feasibility in a tightly integrated system became routine. I worked with the client to develop experimental plans tailored to their specific needs, developed the protocols, and was able to de-risk concepts. It was also important to balance building knowledge with being efficient in a business environment. I learned how to value my time quantitatively, and how to save the company money by ordering things that improved my personal efficiency.
